First if you are buying a salvage title I would suggest you are buying it at a very good discount of book value. Otherwise why buy it!
Second only buy if you plan on driving it for a longer term and dont plan on trading off, they can and will be harder to get rid of. However if you drive enough to get the life out of it you save a ton of money up front.
Third if you are going to drive a salvage title vehicle it should be affordable enough you dont need to carry full coverage insurance.
Flood cars are bad news! Only buy if at parts car prices and you need parts.
Make sure repairs were properly made, buy from reputable repairers or have work inspected.
I was born and raised in the auto recycling industry and drove salvage title vehicles all my life. I drive $20k cars that I wouldnt be able to afford if they were purchased off the lot for wholesale prices. A great way to save some money and drive what i otherwise couldnt afford.
Other opinions welcome.

I crashed my car and (due to it's age and the damage) the insurance company wants to scrap it. I told them that I would like to keep it and claim on the insurance to get it back on the road. I was told by provident insurance that i could claim the value of the vehicle (minus a salvage percentage) and get it repaired. When I spoke to someone else (at provident) last night they said that that wasn't possible and that i must let them scrap the car or have it back and not claim! What is the point of having insurance! I am going to fight them all the way, but where do i stand? I know many people who have had their vehicles back and claimed and had the cars repaired. Please help!

Hey I had an accident yesterday and my car got really bad. My brother says that it might be a write-off, so if it is how much can I expect. the car was already salvage before my accident, but it was on good conditions. the car valued was about 4000$ on the blue book but as i wrote my cas was salvaged so it might cost about 3500$ do you think that my insurance could give me the same or at least 2500$??????

I wanted a cheap pickup truck and found one that seemed ok except for a damaged side bed which had a dent in it. I had the person I bought it from replace the bed with another one, presumably from a junk yard.
I bought the truck, a 1990 Toyota with 154,000 miles on it. I drove it for eight years without any problems except replacing the water pump after a few years. I never found anything wrong with it during the entire eight years so I am wondering just what salvage really means. I put on at least another 200,000 miles on it before the speedometer broke and maybe 30,000 after that. Many cars and trucks don't last that long that are not salvaged. My pickup didn't have a crooked body or any other obvious problems that I was aware of. It appeared to be owned by a gardener or gardening company before I got it.
I always thought a salvaged vehicle was one that was no good and/or not drivable, but that apparently is not the case. The only difference I found between that vehicle and any other one I have owned (I've had many vehicles) was the word salvaged on the title.
So what does salvaged vehicle mean in California?
I need to add that I sold the pickup some time ago. I told the buyer the history while I had it. He knew it was salvaged. The truck was running when he bought it for a very low amount of money.

My friend bought a car for 3200. It was running perfectly fine and minor dents on it. You can say it was in great condition. It turns out that the car had a salvaged title on it before but now it had a regular title here in Illinois. I know what salvage/rebuilt titles are and nothing is really wrong with the car but my friend might have some insurance problems eventhough the car has a regular title now. Since he signed a bill of sale, is the deal finalized or can he do anything about it if the car is to malfunction?

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, and am lookin' to go to my local PULL-A-PART (salvage yard, where you actually pull the part yourself) to salvage out the speakers that are in both the doors, plus the center channel speaker (the one in the middle of the dash). I am sure I can pry off the speaker covers, but other than that, how involved is it, to pull speakers out? Do they just unplug, or should I bring some tools with me? I dont know enough about cars to FIX things myself, but have always done good fixing my car without paying full price for ANYTHING (be it salvaged parts, the cheapest online parts, or good dependable dont-charge-an-arm–a-leg mechanics)
Help.
